Okay, I hope I am not the only one who has noticed this, and somebody can help me...

After I geotag my photos with Trips&Pics, the filesize of the pictures changes. It's at least half or less of what it has been before I geotagged the photos. Since the pixel dimensions haven't changed, it can only mean that somehow strong JPEG compressiona was applied. But why would T&P do that?

Has anyone any clue how to stop that? 'Cuz I don't want any software to mess with my original JPEGs

Thanks!!!

if you don't want Trip&Pics to mess up your original photos, make sure you select the "Keep original" option (it is checked by default).

That doesn't help me. I want the GPS data to be written to the original JPEGs' EXIF header. I just don't want to see the filesize changed (that dramatically). Can't T&P write GPS data to the original JPEGs' EXIF header without "touching" the file?

That's something we can improve in our next release. But in most cases you want to shrink your photos in order to upload them quickly to an EXIF-aware photo sharing website like Flickr or Picasa.

I agree. But then I'd appreciate you putting this on a to-do list for future versions. It'd be awesome to be able to put GPS data into the original JPEGS! Thanks.

I'm using version 1.7.6.2 and when I choose 0% for the shrink value, it still shrinks my photos by about 50%.

Am I doing something wrong?

Yes guys, that's exactly my point I was complaining about. The software *always* recompresses the image no matter what you do. It' silly it does that! Because first of all, I don't want the software to "touch" the image, and second of all, the unwanted recompression takes forever. Shouldn't it be much easier for the software to just add GPS data to the EXIF part of the JPEG without doing anything else???

Here's another vote for the ability to add the gps information to the picture without degrading it. Would also love to see the ability to tag raw files as well. And when I can get it working in a Vista 64 bit format, I'll be real happy.

I'm glad I looked at this forum. I really just wanted to know if this system is Mac-compatible, but the mandatory compression of the files is a deal-killer for me. I want the GPS data for iPhoto to recognize. I certainly don't want those pictures compressed further. If I upload to a website, I prefer to choose the compression level myself, thank you.
So is it worthwhile for me to check back about the promised upgrade, or is this a Windows-only product?
