Posted - 08/21/2009 : 12:21:38 Hi, I am new to this site and have a few questions about Pharos 140 : 1. Would this device work in India? 2. Are there base maps available for India from anywhere? 3. Even if base maps are not available for India, is it possible to capture the Latitude and Longitude of points-of-interest where I travel in India? 4. Can we translate/convert maps from other formats to a format that Pharos will recognize? Any help would be appreciated.
THANKS & have a Good Day!!

Posted - 08/25/2009 : 17:12:41 Hello, By GPS lock, I mean if while you are in India, you are able to have the satellites see your position and give you your latitude/ longitude. There would be nothing you would have to do except to open the Ostia/Smart Nav software on the device, enable the GPS inside of the program, and then view the GPS info to see if you get enough satellites to locate your position. You will know that it has when you receive a latitude/ longitude reading. Thanks |

Posted - 08/24/2009 : 20:06:43 Hello, Thanks for your resonse! I have seen posts on this forum about OSTIA and how to go about installing it -- I'll do that. But what about the GPS lock? What does that mean? How do I handle that?
Thanks! |

Posted - 08/24/2009 : 09:22:56 Hello, Please view the answers to your questions: 1. Would this device work in India? -The GPS should work in India 2. Are there base maps available for India from anywhere? Currently, Pharos does not offer maps of India. 3. Even if base maps are not available for India, is it possible to capture the Latitude and Longitude of points-of-interest where I travel in India? You should not have a problem getting the Lat/Lon in the OSTIA program if you are able to get a GPS lock. 4. Can we translate/convert maps from other formats to a format that Pharos will recognize? You could try, but there are not guarantees. The format is: .rmf (rights management file) and inx. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank You
