Posted - 11/12/2008 : 09:44:51 Is there any documentation of the iGPS-500 connector? I would like to use its LVTTL serial port directly without any adapter, but I would need the connector description. Thanks in advance |

Posted - 11/09/2011 : 18:10:54 I have a Pharos GPS-500 from Microsoft that I would like to use with my race car video recorder. The recorder has a rs-232 com1 connect that uses the following pins. 3. rxd2: data receive 5. gnd: ground 9. +5v DC power output
gps data format nema0183 baudrate 4800bps
will this gps work with my recorder? How should i wire up a rs-232 to usb adapter cable?
thank you in advance. |

Posted - 10/03/2011 : 16:10:50 I have a Pharos GPS 500 that came with Microstoft S & T. I would like to be able to connect the Pharos to a Tiny Tracker 4 which has a serial interface. Is there a easy conversion from the USB to Serial port? Or even a ready made adapter?? guy thanks |

Posted - 04/27/2011 : 10:13:30 Greetings. I am using an iGPS-500 module for an autonomous robot ("Data Bus" described on my blog bot-thoughts.com).
Pharos technical staff: I would like to obtain pinout / datasheet info on the module. Could you email it to me? Thank you.
I am hoping to be able to send configuration packets ($PMTK) to it to change some of the settings.
Thanks again, Michael Shimniok

Posted - 03/13/2011 : 14:18:50 I would also like the pinout information for my GPS-500 SIRF GPS unit. I want to convert it to a serial port. |

Posted - 10/19/2010 : 06:04:48 I would also like to have the pinout for the connector but have a few questions that haven't been answered here: Do any of the pins on the iGPS-500 have a PPS output? I'm working on a project at work needing a PPS feed and this would be an excellent solution. Can the iGPS-500 run on 3.3V? I'd love to build a data-logger of my own and if I can get the voltage down the battery size would be small enough to make it worth the effort, if not I might find one of the Pharos GPS Loggers you built. |

Posted - 01/09/2010 : 14:05:00 Never mind. I did some more Google searches and obtained more detailed information as a result. I wrote a little document that includes all that research for this type of module and should answer many if not all questions concerning it.
If you are interested in what I compiled, I would be happy to send it to you free to use and send to others. You should know that if you had sent me what I compiled, it would have solved all my interfacing issues. I hope you will consider that.
Again, thanks for your reply and also a BIG thank you to Pharos for not only offering this forum option and community, but for providing such a wonderful device. Embedded Systems enthusiasts like myself are very grateful!!

Posted - 01/09/2010 : 12:03:28 Thank you Natalie, but I can't tell what side starts with pin 1, and one of the wide contacts is split in two, looking like 2 little pads. Here is a link of what mine looks like. It's upside down with the connection port towards the bottom. http://hopworks.com/postimg/gps500_sirf.jpg |

I would appreciate any technical info ( including pinouts ) for the gps-360 and gps-500.
I would like to interface them with an arduino micorcontroler which can support nmea format for serial communications from 3.3 to 5 v dc.
Students are planning to integrate it into a project.
thank you.

Posted - 01/07/2010 : 13:40:01 I too would like to receive any information on this device I can get. I received this module (P/N X11-97338 GPS-500 SIRF III) with a USB connecting cable along with streets and trips when I bought my laptop from Dell. For what I want to use it for would require my laptop which is grossly impractical. I hope to connect it's serial connection to a Microchip micro controller 18F4550 or perhaps a LP version at 3.3 to receive GPS information on my embedded bicycle project.
The project is home use and not a prototype I am developing for sale. I just want to incorporate GPS features for my daily bike rides and don't want this beautiful hardware to go to waste. I can buy GPS modules for that purpose, but if I can use what I have then I'll be happy.
And if that is successful, I wonder how I might buy another of these modules for my embedded Jeep project I'm also working on. It's an elegant module and excited about tapping into it.
Regards,

May I please have a copy of the pinout guide for iGPS-500? I have one sitting collecting dust, and want to use it in a hobby project. Thanks.

First I have to say, I really like your GPS-500 unit! I use one of the many I have bought to navigate in my car with streets and trips on a regular basis. As well I have used it with autoroute to navigate germany. I have recommended your product to many of my friends and they have been impressed with it. I do wish I new more about this product as I wish to interface it with a pic microcontroller, for a future project. Any information would be appreciated greatly. Especially everything related to rs232 mode, pin-out and commands/command structure... a developers package?
Thank You
